Garrett Gasque, marketing and energy management representative for Horry Electric Cooperative, has earned certification as a Building Analyst Professional through the Building Performance Institute, Inc.
The written and field examinations required of all candidates for credentials available through the Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) are nationally recognized. Achievement of certification means an individual has passed both successfully.
In order to earn the credential of Building Analyst Professional, Gasque’s knowledge and skills were tested in six specific areas, which included Building Science; Buildings and their Systems; Measurement and Verification of Building Performance; BPI National Standards and Project Specifications; Analyzing Building Systems and Professional Ethics, Conduct and Communication.
Gasque is one of several electric cooperative energy management professionals across South Carolina seeking certification as Building Analyst Professional. “We have two other folks in our department at Horry Electric who are working toward the same goal,” says Penelope Hinson, manager of public relations, marketing and energy management for the cooperative. “Garrett is the first to successfully complete both the written and the field portions of the test.”
Having the energy management team at Horry Electric Cooperative earn such a designation is important for the cooperative, as well as its members. “The energy efficiency retrofit and weatherization assistance programs not already requiring BPI certification, will soon be adding the designation as a requirement,” says Hinson. “Our energy management professionals are already trained and credentialed in their field,” she adds. “Earning this designation adds even more value to their abilities to help our members.”
