Horry Electric Cooperative is proud to announce that we are now an official drop-off point for the Extreme Canned Food Drive. Members and any others who wish to make a donation can drop items off at the main office on Cultra Road or at the Socastee office, which is located on Highway 707.
The project, which is a county-wide effort that will benefit all food pantries, shelters and children’s homes in our community, is being headed up by United Way of Horry County and area Wal-Mart stores. Horry Electric is just one of several local businesses involved with the effort. various clubs, organizations and groups are also involved. The goal is to collect 100 tons of food.
Examples of canned or non-perishable items suitable for donation include canned vegetables, meat or fruit; peanut butter and jelly; soup; pasta, as well as chicken or beef broth. These are just a few examples of things that have extended shelf-life that will fit the needs of the food pantries. All donations will remain in Horry County.
